Emmerdale: The game is almost up for Maya Stepney after grooming teenager Jacob Gallagher

Fans will be relieved!

It's one of Emmerdale's most controversial storylines ever, but thankfully the game is almost up for paedophile Maya Stepney. Maya, played by Louisa Clein, has been grooming teenager Jacob Gallagher - the son of her boyfriend, David Metcalfe, leaving viewers incredible uncomfortable.

Although Jacob at first was on board with the idea of the relationship, it seems as though he's now having doubts about the situation - and quite rightly too, especially after Maya forced him to sleep with her in episodes which aired two weeks ago, with Jacob being reluctant.

Although it's important to raise awareness of issues like this, fans of the show have been left sickened by the storyline, resulting in complaints to Ofcom - but thankfully, it looks as though it could be all over for Maya in upcoming episodes.

After Maya convinced David to go away for the week under the guise of her "looking after" Jacob, the pair have had the house to themselves - but it turns out that David will return early from the trip. Will he catch them in the act?

Viewers may have found it an uncomfortable watch, but charity Barnardo's have praised the show for tackling such an important issue, with Chief Executive Javed Khan explaining to Metro.co.uk, "When abusers befriend and groom a child, they create emotional ties whereby the child believes them to be their boyfriend or girlfriend and believes they are in a loving 'relationship' initially.

"When a young person is manipulated, controlled or forced into taking part in a sexual act, that is sexual abuse. Even if the young person thinks it’s a consensual relationship, it is still abuse. Vulnerable young people may think that their abuser is their friend, or even their boyfriend or girlfriend.

"But in reality they may force the young person to do things they don’t want to do. They can put them into dangerous situations and may even be violent. Sadly, thousands of children and young people across the UK are being sexually abused every year."

Emmerdale airs every weeknight at 7pm on ITV, with a second showing on Tuesday nights at 8pm.
