EastEnders: The police close in on Phil Mitchell's attacker

Last week in EastEnders, Phil Mitchell was left for dead but this week the residents discover what's happened to him. While Phil is in the hospital someone people rush to cover the truth, another person gets arrested and fingers are pointed all over the gaffe… but who is guilty of attacking Phil?

Meanwhile Mick Carter is feeling the pressure with Ollie Carter, The Vic and being a referee at the kids football match. However it's not long before things start taking it's toll on him and he collapses…

Also Callum Highway finds it difficult writing his wedding vows, Chantelle Aktins panics as she helps Whitney Dean with her clothing empire and Iqra Ahmed catches Habiba Ahmed and Adam Bateman together.

EastEnders spoilers: Monday 5 – Friday 9 August 2019

The Square is rocked following the news that Phil was attacked. Some people rush to cover the truth and it's not long before fingers are pointed all over the place.

After one resident gets arrested, another resorts to shocking and dangerous lengths to cover their tracks…

The next day at the hospital tensions are running high and after the Mitchell family rush around Phil's bed, one person learns the shocking truth. What will they do with the information?

Meanwhile the police begin to close in on a suspect as the evidence against them stacks up and it's not long before they pay a visit to Walford.

Have they got the right person? Or has the real culprit managed to set someone else up to take the fall?

Elsewhere in the Square, Ruby Allen complains to Honey Mitchell for playing music too loud but is left wracked with guilty when she discovers it was actually Janet Mitchell.

After explaining the situation to Max Branning, she decides to make amends by apologising and giving Janet a gift.

Linda Carter has her son Ollie Carter on her mind and when she overhears Ruby's incident with Janet, she overreacts and it's not long before the women begin to row.

Mick arrives and luckily manages to calm the situation down. After heading home, there's an incident with Ollie which leads to Linda and Shirley criticising Mick. Later when he's alone it becomes clear that he's feeling the pressure.

The next day Mick is feeling the stress as he tries to sort The Vic's finances and tries to reassure his wife that things will work out.

The day continues to grow hectic for Mick; Mitch Baker asks him to referee a football match and Tina Carter desperately needs his help.

Mick decides to turn down the football match and rushes to help Tina but he gets way more than he bargained for when he arrives at The Prince Albert.

Later on, The Vic is full to the brim and the stress for Mick continues to grow from all angles…

The next day Mick tries to clear his mind by going for a run but when Bex Fowler spots him struggling she suggests some tips.

At the café, Bex grows concerned when it comes clear that Mick's in pain. And when Stuart Highway tries to make conversation, he is quickly shut down by Mick.

Mick heads over to referee a football game but when one of the kids gets injured, the other team begin to erupt at Mick. It's not long before the stress of everything takes its toll on the landlord and he collapses…

Sheree has only just arrived on the Square and she's already making herself comfortable – much to Denise's annoyance. She has a change of heart following a conversation with Patrick and decides to back down.

It doesn't last long though because her patience is quickly tested when Patrick and Sheree arrive in the salon. Before long, Chantelle Aktins asks to reduce her hours which results in Sheree giving her too cents…

Callum Highway struggles to write his wedding vows and when he discovers that his fiancée Whitney Dean wants to hear them, he feels bad.

Still at a loss for words at how to write his wedding vows, Whitney is annoyed but despite bad advice from Mick, Mitch and Stuart, Callum continues to try his best. Bless him.

Chantelle helps Whitney with her new clothing company but when she spots a picture of herself on social media she panics – aware that Gray Atkins will disapprove. She then thinks on her feet and makes up a lie to get Whitney to take it down.

Over to Billy Mitchell and he struggles to keep his jealously over Adam at bay. When Honey spots her ex-husband's behaviour she decides to give him some home truths.

Iqra Ahmed is suspicious of Habiba's sudden illness and it doesn't take too long for her to catch her sister with Adam Bateman.

Following his swift exit, Iqra tries to get through to her sister and make her see sense. It looks like she ignores her sister's advice because soon after she chases after Adam.

Lola Pearce confronts Habiba but when the women have a stand-off, Lola manages to give Habiba food for thought… Habiba offers to go to the shop instead of Mariam and when she spots Adam and sets a trap…

Rainie Branning tries to persuade Bobby Beale to look after her but he refuses and on his way out the teenager forgets his bag. At Walford East, Bobby jumps to defend Iqra after an incident with a difficult customer.

When Iqra tells Bobby she's aware that he's exploring Islam, she tries to encourage him to tell his family. She then invites him to Eid at her family home.

It all begins with Sharon Mitchell receiving the results of her DNA test - who is her baby daddy her husband Phil or Keanu Taylor? Either way the drama doesn't stop there because following an altercation at The Arches, Phil is left for dead. Who is injured him and will he pull through?

Elsewhere Stacey Fowler and Ruby continue to be at odds following the latter's blossoming relationship with Max Branning. Martin Fowler gives his wife an ultimatum, Mitch punches Gray and Rainie and Stuart head out on a date.

EastEnders airs on Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One.
