The moment that serial killer, Richard Hillman, drove his car with his family into the canal has gone down as one of Coronation Street's most remembered storylines.

Speaking on Wednesday (9th December) on Lorraine, to celebrate Corrie’s 60th Anniversary, Helen, who plays the iconic Gail Platt, admitted she hasn’t been underwater since shooting the scene in 2003.

Helen, who has played Gail since 1974, revealed to Lorraine that she didn’t know how to swim before shooting the episode. The iconic episode sees her family attempt to escape their car when her husband Richard drove into the canal, after they discovered he was a murderer.

The soap star confessed, “It was so scary, but I did it. I’ve never been underwater since.” Helen also added, “It was such an exciting stunt.”

The episode has gone down in soap history, but Helen told Lorraine she finds it difficult to pick a favourite scene from her time on the cobbles.

Helen reflected on her 46 years on the soap discussing characters from the past and joking about the many additions to the Platt household over the years, saying, “They’re all our family.”

On Wednesday (9th December) Corrie will have been on our screens for six decades and despite the difficulties which have came with this year, the soap has successfully continued filming, with characters adopting social distancing measures and wearing masks on screen.

Helen expressed how pleased she was that the Corrie crew have adapted to the changes and made it work. The soap star added, “I’m so happy the street has carried on and I’ve carried on with it!”

But Gary is still reeling from what he saw between Faye and Ray and tells Debbie he'll never work with Ray again as he knows what kind of man he is.

Later on Gary heads off with David and Abi in search of the waterboard engineer Colin, who Ray previously bribed to give a phoney diagnosis of the sinkhole at number 8.

But the trio arrive back on the street with the news that Colin seems to have vanished without a trace, leaving Ray quietly smug.

But Debbie isn't quite so pleased and asserts to Ray that winding up the neighbours isn't getting them anywhere and they need a new plan.

But later on they face another hurdle when Ray finds out Debbie hasn't been honest with him about the revised redevelopment plans and blows his top, insisting from now on, he's in charge.

Trying to keep a hold on the situation Debbie assures Ray that she's fully on board and the more properties they can destroy, the better.

That night on the phone lines Paul speaks to a lad called Will who's in a state and begs for Paul's mobile number, who's struggling to say 'no'.

Under pressure, Paul gives in and when Will rings him begging to meet, Todd overhears Paul reluctantly agreeing to his request.
