Hallé Symphony Orchestra For Live From Jodrell Bank
Stephen Bell conducts a unique concert inspired by the stars
Live From Jodrell Bank will host a very special performance by world-famous symphony orchestra Hallé this summer.
Taking place in the shadow of the Lovell Telescope on Saturday 31st August, the Live From Jodrell Bank Proms will see Stephen Bell conduct a unique concert inspired by the stars.
The Manchester-based orchestra will play ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Mars’ from Holst's The Planets, classics from Strauss, Mozart and John Williams, as well as a selection of out-of-this-world film music from blockbusters such as Star Wars, Independence Day, E.T. and Apollo 13.
The concert takes place on the very day that the late Sir Bernard Lovell would have celebrated his 100th birthday.
Teresa Anderson, Director of the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre says: “Sir Bernard was a long-time supporter and follower of the Hallé, often travelling into Manchester from his home near Jodrell Bank to attend concerts.
“We know that he would be delighted in the conjunction of Science and Music that is taking place in the shadow of the telescope he created.”
Conductor Stephen Bell comments: “It will be a huge pleasure to conduct the magnificent Hallé in such a brilliant and unique setting as Jodrell Bank.
“We'll play some of the most exciting music there is, and nothing beats hearing a world-class symphony orchestra playing at the top of their game. It will be an unforgettable evening!"
