Taylor Swift's 'Evermore' album: Get to know more about the surprise record

It was released just five months after 'Folklore'

Author: Emma DoddsPublished 10th Jul 2024

Taylor Swift is one of the most hard-working and busiest popstars on the planet - as proven by her mammoth 'Eras Tour'! But way before she set off on the tour in March 2023, Taylor made history by releasing two studio albums - in the space of just five months.

That's right, following the release of 'Folklore' in July 2020, Taylor decided to put out 'Evermore' in December 2020 as she simply "couldn't stop writing songs". Here's everything you need to know about her surprise record.

When was 'Evermore' released?

Taylor dropped her ninth studio album 'Evermore' on 11th December 2020, just five months after her eighth record 'Folklore' was released.

How did Taylor announce the album 'Evermore'?

The ‘Cardigan’ singer announced the news on X, sharing with fans: 'Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now.

'You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthday’s and so this time I thought I would give you something!'

What's the tracklist?

Taylor included the album artwork and track list in her post, which included 15 songs on the standard version plus a deluxe physical edition which features two bonus tracks – ‘Right Where You Left Me’ and ‘It’s Time to Go’.

The tracklist is:

1) 'Willow'

2) 'Champagne Problems'

3) 'Gold Rush'

4) 'Tis the Damn Season'

5) 'Tolerate It'

6) 'No Body, No Crime' (featuring Haim)

7) 'Happiness'

8) 'Dorothea'

9) 'Coney Island' (featuring the National)

10) 'Ivy'

11) 'Cowboy like Me'

12) 'Long Story Short'

13) 'Marjorie'

14) 'Closure'

15) 'Evermore' (featuring Bon Iver)

Taylor speaks out about releasing two albums back to back

As was well documented at the time, this was the second album that the multi-Grammy Award winner had written and recorded in 2020. In a post on Instagram, Taylor explained: 'To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs.

'To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.'

Did Taylor tour the 'Evermore' album?

Taylor has performed songs from her 'Evermore' album on her 'Eras Tour', which began in March 2023 and will continue through to December 2024. Originally performing songs from 'Evermore' in its own section, it was combined with 'Folklore' from May 2024 onwards to make space for songs from her 11th album 'The Tortured Poets Department'.

Where did it come in the charts?

Debuting at Number 1, 'Evermore' spent two weeks in total at the top spot in the UK.
