One Direction were forced to abandon their Tuesday night gig at the SSE Arena Belfast after band member Liam fell ill.

The last minute decision was made around 8.15pm, after the band's support act had performed and fans had already arrived at the arena.

Photographs sent to MFR show the audience leaving.

The band played Dublin on Monday night and are scheduled to perform sold out dates in Northern Ireland this week.

A statement from Aiken Promotions said: The show tonight has been cancelled as Liam has taken ill, and whilst not serious , he is unable to perform tonight. Please hold on to your tickets.** A further statement will be made in the morning.

The band apologise to the fans and wish Liam better.

The band also took to Twitter with their own messages.

Recently Liam hit the headlines for not turning up to receive an award from Attitude magazine. The One Direction singer responded saying that he was gutted that he couldn't make it.
