Just days after announcing British group Coldplay would open The BRIT Awards 2021 with Mastercard, organisers added another huge name to the line-up in the form of global superstar The Weeknd.

The Weeknd, real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, performed at this year's gig on Tuesday 11th May, as well as winning the International Male Solo Artist gong after being nominated alongside Bruce Springsteen, Burna Boy, Childish Gambino and Tame Impala.

Due to current restrictions, The Weeknd's exclusive performance was filmed remotely.

The prestigious award show which usually takes place in February was delayed this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but bosses did everything in their power to make the show special.

As well as Jack Whitehall hosting the show for a fourth consecutive year, the likes of Dua Lipa, Coldplay and P!nk were all confirmed to perform, as well as a 4000-strong crowd. Audience members attending the indoor ceremony next month will not be socially distanced or be required to wear face coverings once seated.

They needed proof of a negative lateral flow test result to enter the venue and were required to provide details to NHS Test and Trace and follow Government guidance while travelling.
