The BRIT Awards unveil brand new double trophy for 2021 winners

Each winner will receive two awards this year!

We are now just two weeks away until The BRIT Awards 2021 with Mastercard takes place at London's O2 Arena, and after the nominations were released earlier this month, bosses have now unveiled the brand new trophy that winners will receive!

Unlike previous years, the 2021 winners will receive TWO awards on the night, with winners encouraged to award the smaller trophy to somebody else, such as a family member, friends, neighbours, fellow artists or key workers.

The two new trophies, designed by two of Britain’s most in-demand visual artists, Es Devlin OBE and Yinka Ilori MBE, is the BRITs first collaborative double-trophy design, with Es and Yinka following in the footsteps of the likes of Dame Vivienne Westwood, Sir Philip Treacy, Tracey Emin, Anish Kapoor, Dame Zaha Hadid and Sir David Adjaye.

Speaking about her collaborative design, Es Devlin said: “Yinka and I thought that the best award that one could receive would be agency to award another...Each recipient is invited to award the second trophy to someone they consider worthy - it might be recognition - or it might be someone that does something entirely unrelated to music.”

Yinka Ilori continued: “The idea came from the experience of lockdown, where your neighbour you’ve lived beside for six years and never say hello to suddenly gave you flowers, foods, acts of kindness. I wanted to capture that...I would describe it as two artists from different disciplines, different inspirations, coming together to design a trophy based around the idea of giving something back - acts of kindness.”

After the nominations were released and it was announced that comedian Jack Whitehall would be hosting the show for the fourth year in a row, bosses started to release details of which artists would be performing on the big night!

As well as Rising Star Award winner Griff, Dua Lipa, Arlo Parks, Olivia Rodrigo and Headie One will all perform, as well as a duet between Rag'n'Bone Man and P!nk, following the release of their new single 'Anywhere Away From Here'.

Olivia Rodrigo

Record-breaking US artist Olivia Rodrigo will be making her debut UK performance at this year's BRIT Award ceremony. Coldplay

Coldplay have been confirmed as the opening act for the BRIT Awards 2021. In what will be their first TV performance in over a year, the band will perform on a pontoon on the Thames near The O2.

The Weeknd

Global superstar The Weeknd has also been added to the amazing line-up! Due to current restrictions, The Weeknd's exclusive performance will be filmed remotely.

Despite the prestigious award show being postponed until May, it's now been announced that The BRIT Awards will be used as part of the Government's live events pilot scheme, with a 4000-strong crowd expected.

Audience members attending the indoor ceremony next month will not be socially distanced or be required to wear face coverings once seated.

They will, however, need proof of a negative lateral flow test result to enter the venue and will be required to provide details to NHS Test and Trace and follow Government guidance while travelling.

The BRIT Awards 2021 with Mastercard takes place on Tuesday 11th May.
