Netflix users are loving Anna Kendrick's new thriller Woman of the Hour

It's based on a true story

As Halloween is fast approaching, our TV and film viewing habits are changing, with many delving into the crime dramas and thrillers, as well as the classic films such as Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters and Hocus Pocus.

The latest thriller to take Netflix by storm is a brand new movie called Woman of the Hour, starring Anna Kendrick as she makes her directional debut. After being released in mid-October, the new movie is now Number 1 on the streaming platform, with it receiving some excellent reviews.

What is it about?

Based on the real life story serial killer Rodney Alcala, Woman of the Hour tells the story of him appearing on TV show The Dating Game in 1978, at the height of his murder spree.

The film portrays the story of Rodney being one of the bachelors on the dating show, whilst Anna Kendrick plays the role of game show contestant Cheryl Bradshaw, who later goes on a date with Rodney after filming.

After appearing on the show, Rodney was later given the nickname of 'The Dating Game Killer'.

Netflix's official synopsis reads: 'The stranger-than-fiction story of an aspiring actress in 1970s Los Angeles and a serial killer in the midst of a years long murder spree, whose lives intersect when they’re cast on an episode of The Dating Game'.

As well as having a score of 90% from Rotten Tomatoes, many Netflix users have taken to social media to express their love for the movie.

One wrote: 'Brilliant movie 👏', with a second writing: 'This is an incredibly important film and needs to be promoted more as these killings were outrageous'. (sic)
