Yep, you read that right - Stephenie Meyer has announced that she really is preparing to release Midnight Sun, 12 years after halting its progress. In an interview with Good Morning America, Stephenie revealed that the novel would be released on 4th August this year.

She said, "It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure it was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so so long it didn’t seem right to make you wait any more."

Her publisher Little, Brown described the book as follows, 'This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire.

'As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he let himself fall in love with Bella when he knows that he is endangering her life?'

This news will be a huge relief to fans of the original series, who were left totally heartbroken by the news that Midnight Sun was no longer in the works back in 2008. If you can't quite remember what happened, let us refresh your memory...

Twilight author Stephenie wrote the original series back in 2005, spawning a hugely successful franchise of novels and film adaptations - even being the inspiration behind E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey series.

In 2008 when the first film was released, Stephenie was in the middle of writing Midnight Sun - a re-telling of the first Twilight novel, but from the perspective of Edward, not Bella as it was the first time around.

Unfortunately, the first 12 chapters that she had written were leaked onto the Internet, and she released a statement to say she wouldn't be writing it anymore, which read, 'If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story.

'In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.'
