A former Love Island star has revealed that Margot Robbie helped him get a role in the upcoming Barbie movie, as she is a huge fan of the hit ITV2 dating show.

Chris Taylor appeared on series five of Love Island back in 2019, where he entered the villa as a bombshell. The 32-year-old has now landed himself a cameo in the highly anticipated Barbie movie, which is set to hit cinemas on Friday (21st July).

The former Islander has a small part in the film, which sees him say one line. Chris says: "And the Nobel Prize for horses goes to Ken!" During the Barbie premiere in London, Chris revealed how his cameo came about.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK, Chris revealed that he was introduced to Margot at a Birds of Prey party in 2020 after his housemates and fellow Islanders Michael Griffiths and Jordan Hames met her at the premiere.

Chris explained: "The lads had gone to the Birds of Prey premiere, and they came back saying how they'd met Margot on the red carpet, and Margot was gassed to see them.

"We were sat around talking about it when someone got a message saying Margot wanted us all to come to the afterparty. I was actually in bed, but I said I'd come as how often do you get to meet Margot Robbie?"

The afterparty led to Chris having some chats with Margot about his own life. He added: "She's just really down to earth and cool. She's one of the nicest people I've ever met."

A year and a half later, Chris got a surprise when an email from Warner Brothers landed in his inbox, asking him to audition for a role in Barbie. He said: "I was fully convinced it was a prank. But I pulled up at Warner Brothers and saw Ryan Gosling walk past my car and I thought, 'This definitely isn't a prank."

Chris only found out at the premiere that his scene had made the cut. However, at the premiere, Margot's husband Tom Ackerley, who was a producer on the film, said that Margot was keen to get Chris in the film.

Posting about the film on his Instagram page after the premiere, Chris thanked a mysterious 'glorious ray of sunshine' for making it happen. He explained that he was alluding to Margot and said: "I know she's got a secret account that follows Love Islanders, so hopefully she would have seen that. I saw her on the red carpet and I got to say a quick thank you, but I didn't really get a chance to see her after that. So I was basically saying thank you."
