Harry Styles is reportedly set to play Prince Eric in the latest upcoming Disney live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harry, who made his film debut in Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk' in 2017, is in "early negotiations" to take on the famous role.

The news comes a week after Halle Bailey was announced to play the lead role of Ariel. The 19-year-old is vest known as being one-half of sister singing duo, Chloe x Halle with her sister Chloe.

This is the latest rumour for The Little Mermaid castings, after it was widely rumoured that Melissa McCarthy was to take on the role of Ursula, whilst Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina was also going to star in the film.

Fans were also extremely eager for Gordon Ramsey to play the angry, French chef Louis. Again, this has not been confirmed.

However, Harry's fans are extremely happy with the latest speculation, with one Twitter user writing, 'Harry Styles playing as Prince Eric is what we ALL deserve', whilst another added, 'Harry Styles as Prince Eric. That's it. That's the tweet'.

Only two weeks ago, Harry was rumoured to be playing Elvis Presley in a new biopic about the Rock 'n' Roll singer. However, it was then announced that the role had been given to Austin Butler.

Baz Luhrmann, who is directing the Elvis biopic, said the casting process had been very competitive, adding after "a journey of extensive screen testing and music and performance workshops, I know unequivocally that I had found someone Austin who could embody the spirit of one of the world's most iconic musical figures".

The Little Mermaid is set to start production in 2020, with Disney revealing further casting announcements will be made in due course.
