The eagerly awaited third Bill & Ted movie, Bill & Ted Face the Music, officially started filming yesterday (Monday 1st July) in New Orleans.

A tantalising post on the official Bill & Ted 3 Facebook page simply read, 'It is time', in the early hours of yesterday, before a second post read, 'After years of anticipation and thanks to the enormous support of our fan community, Bill & Ted Face The Music officially started filming today!'

Alex Winter, who plays Bill S. Preston, Esq. in the movie franchise, also shared a photo of himself wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the logo of Bill & Ted’s band Wyld Stallyns.

Alongside two guitar emojis, Winter wrote, 'Day one. See you on the other side and remember to be excellent.'

An image of Keanu Reeves dressed up as his character Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan has also been widely shared on social media.

Ed Solomon, who wrote the Bill & Ted 3 script alongside Chris Matheson, also shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos and videos on Twitter. Solomon and Matheson also wrote 1989’s Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and 1991’s Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

Bill and Ted Face the Music is due to hit cinemas on 21st August 2020.

Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves officially announced Bill & Ted 3 back in March, posting this video:

A plot synopsis for the film reads, “Yet to fulfil their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.”

William Sadler will reprise his role as Death in the film with Brigette Lundy-Paine (as Billie Logan) and Samara Weaving (as Thea Preston) playing Bill and Ted's daughters.

When the project was first announced last year, Reeves and Winter said in a joint statement: “We couldn't be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we've got a dream team!"
