Shoppers in Inverness witnessed an unexpected sight in a supermarket at the weekend: Highland Dancing!
Bemused customers walked by as a group from a dance school on Lewis, in the Highland capital for a competition, swapped the isles for the aisles.
Sharon Macdonald, the dance teacher at Sharon Mackinnon School of Highland Dancing told MFR: “It was totally spontaneous. We live on the Isle of Lewis and I had a group of my dancers away for the weekend as we were attending the European Championships in Inverness. We nipped into Asda to get some fruit and snacks to bring to the competition the next morning.
“When we're away on trips like this one I'll always try and embarrass the youngsters by dancing around in public if there's a good song playing and they usually run away from me!”
As the group walked around the shop, a song which features in Sharon's Highland Hustle dance fitness classes started to play so she began doing the routine.
“Surprisingly they actually joined in and did it with me”, she continued. “Not known to me, one of the mums behind me started filming it as she thought it was hilarious we were doing this in the middle of the supermarket.”
Sharon says they've had a great response to the clip: “We never, ever expected the video to have so many views! We're all just finding it so funny that people are actually watching and sharing it! We like to mess around and have a craic all the time, as our dancers work so hard - it's only fair that we encourage them to chill out and have as much fun as they can as that's what it's all about.
“It was a little different to the normal Highland Dancing pics we usually put on and we are all delighted that we have put a smile on some folks faces.”
