Madame Tussauds unveil Stormzy's first ever waxwork
It pays homage to his Glastonbury headline set
Last updated 12th Aug 2021
Madame Tussauds have officially unveiled 'Vossi Bop' superstar and rap legend Stormzy's first ever waxwork, at an exclusive event for his family, friends and competition winners. The figure pays homage to his iconic performance at Glastonbury 2019, sitting proudly in Madame Tussauds London's Culture zone.
Unveiled last night (11th August), Stormzy's waxwork, which is wearing his famous Banksy Stab Vest, stands beside the likes of Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Queen Elizabeth II, in order to reflect the impact he has had on British Culture.
It was announced back in July that the 'Blinded by Your Grace' rapper will be getting his first ever wax figure at the world renowned Madame Tussauds in London. In celebration of the rapper turning 28-years-old (on 26th July 2021), the famous Baker Street attraction announced the news and revealed we will be able to see the figure later this summer. The waxwork was officially unveiled on Wednesday 11th August!
Despite not giving away any previews of Stormzy's wax figure at the time, Madame Tussauds London took to their Instagram to share a sweet clip of the rapper seeing it for the very first time, alongside his adorable nephew and with his mum on FaceTime. They captioned the video: When Stormzy met... Stormzy 🤩Coming to Madame Tussauds London this summer 👊'.
Shocked at seeing the figure, Stormzy exclaims: "That's scary cuz! Oh my days," before continuing: "You never see yourself, that's rahh, that was mad!"
In an adorable moment of brief confusion, the 'Blinded by Your Grace' singer's young nephew can be seen tugging at the wax figures arm, saying: "Uncle Junior isn't moving." The rapper soon creeps up on him, with the little man exclaiming: "Hey, you scared me!"
The 28-year-olds mother seemed just as confused by the waxwork, as Stormzy rang her on FaceTime. Seemingly impressed by the like-ness of the figure, his mum did, however, think that Madame Tussauds was a brand of BBQ sauce.
The figure joins the attraction's star-studded line-up this summer, including the likes of their brand new Little Mix waxworks as well as Dua Lipa.
Speaking on his new waxwork, Stormzy said: "I’m proud and I hope when my fans see my figure, they feel proud too."
The rapper then continued: "I was told Madame Tussauds London wanted to make a figure of me just after I performed at Glastonbury, and it really felt like the icing on top of the cake. Growing up, going to school, we’d go to Madame Tussauds London all the time. For me to be there, it feels like, flipping heck, I’m going up in the world."
Congrats, Stormz!
