Simon Cowell Denies He's Gay Following Tulisa Drug Trial Collapse
He responds to claims made by Tulisa's PA
Simon Cowell has rejected claims he is gay following the collapse of Tulisa’s drug trial yesterday (21st July).
Last week jurors were played a recording of Tulisa’s manager Gareth Varey chatting to undercover journalist Mazher Mahmood who was posing as a Sheikh involved in the film industry.
In the secret recording, Varey told Mahmood that Cowell is homosexual and when asked if he’d slept with him he responded “I know people who have.”
Simon Cowell’s representatives were forced to stay quiet during court proceedings but they’ve now made a statement in the immediate wake of its collapse.
It reads: "Simon was referred to during the trial without forewarning, resulting in widespread media coverage of untrue claims regarding his private life.
"In 2014 the question of whether someone is or is not gay is antiquated. (As it happens he isn't, though if he were, he would simply have said so).
"However, the issue was the false suggestion made by Mr Varey that Simon - who is renowned for his honesty and candidness - had thus not been truthful in the public arena and this is what we have been obliged to clarify."
Mr Varey has not commented.
Tulisa’s trial was thrown out of court yesterday after the judge told the jury there were “strong grounds to believe” that Mr Mahood had lied.
The singer said outside court: "Mahmood has now been exposed by my lawyers openly lying to the judge and jury. These lies were told to stop crucial evidence going before the jury.”
Tulisa’s friend Mike GLC - real name Michael Coombs - pleaded guilty before the start of the trial to supplying 13.9g of cocaine but he also walked free after judge said the case cannot proceed against him.
The rapper wrote on Twitter last night: “Thank you to all who have given me strength and I am looking forward to getting on with my life.”
