Karen Gillan has topped the list of top 10 most popular Scottish Disney stars according to Google! After Disney+ was released in the UK back in March 2020, fans have been looking up their favourite actors from movies and TV shows they've been watching on the streaming service.

Having starred as Nebula in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Karen is now part of the Disney-sphere after the conglomerate bought Marvel back in 2009, and integrated the studios in 2015.

Research has found which Scottish stars are the top 10 most searched for, following the launch of Disney+ in the UK, and therefore which are the most popular...

Karen Gillan

Karen starred in the Marvel franchise films as Nebula, first playing the role in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and later starring in the 2017 sequel, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame in 2018 and 2019. Karen is from Inverness.

James McAvoy

James is also part of the Disney family through Marvel - playing a young Charles Xavier in the X-Men series, a role he shares with Patrick Stewart. He also voiced Gnomeo in Gnomeo and Juliet, which was financed by Disney. James is from Glasgow.

David Tennant

David starred in DuckTales as Scrooge McDuck, which is available to watch on Disney+. David is from Bathgate in West Lothian.

Ewan McGregor

Ewan has been in a couple of different Disney films - he played LumiĆØre in the 2017 live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, he portrayed Christopher Robin in the film of the same name in 2018 and also played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel films, which have been bought by Disney. He's also in talks to star in a series around the character for Disney+. Ewan is from Perth.

Billy Connolly

Billy is also no stranger to Disney, having voiced Ben in Pocahontas and King Fergus in Brave. Billy is from Anderston in Glasgow.

Kelly MacDonald

Another star from Brave is Kelly MacDonald, who voiced the main character Merida in the film. Kelly was born in Glasgow and moved to Aberdeen at the age of five.

Peter Capaldi

Peter starred alongside Ewan in Christopher Robin, voicing the character of Rabbit. Peter is from Glasgow.

Ashley Jensen

Ashley became part of the Disney family last year when she voiced Jock in the live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp, made for Disney+. She also voiced Downy McDuck in Duck Tales. Ashley is from Annan in Dumfriesshire.

Robbie Coltrane

Robbie voiced Lord Dingwall in Brave, and is from Rutherglen in Lanarkshire.

John Hannah

John has dipped his toe in the Disney world twice - first playing Simon Moore in 1997's The Love Bug, and secondly in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series as Holden Radcliffe.

The research, undertaken by Onlinecasinos.co.uk, found that Karen topped the charts with 165,000 searches undertaken in lockdown, followed by James with 135,000 lockdown searches.

David came in third with 110,000 searches, with Ewan following on 75,000. Billy was up next with 74,000, and Kelly brought in 49,500 searches with Peter matching on the same amount. Ashley and Robbie were joint on 33,100 and Simon had 22,200 lockdown searches.

A spokesperson for the site said, "Disney+ now has 50 million subscribers worldwide. So we wanted to see if the service had any impact on Scots since it's UK launch. Which Scottish star is the most popular on Disney+?

"Itā€™s no surprise that Karen Gillan came out on top as the most popular Disney+ on the platform. The Inverness actress started big with her role as Amy Pond on Doctor Who and has only gone from strength to strength since then, landing a key role as Thanosā€™s daughter Nebula in the Marvel Avengers Universe, and recently appearing in the hit Jumanji reboot. Itā€™s exciting to see where sheā€™ll go next.

"Whilst itā€™s not surprising that Gillan took the top spot, some might be surprised to realise just how popular she actually is. Gillan beat out some of Scotlandā€™s biggest exports - James McAvoy and David Tennant - for her place at the top of the Disney pyramid."
