Did Lady Gaga REALLY mistake Ed Sheeran for a waiter at the GRAMMYs?

Both of the stars have now spoken out about the alleged mis-hap!

Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga are two of the biggest stars on the planet - and have been for quite some time. Even back in 2015, when Gaga had been working with Tony Bennett and also got cast in American Horror Story, and Ed cleaned up during the awards season after releasing 'x' (multiply) in 2014.

But despite the pair's worldwide fame, at the GRAMMY Awards in 2015 it looked as though Gaga didn't recognise Ed! The 'Shape of You' singer tweeted that Lady G hadn't realised it was him at the prestigious ceremony - instead mistaking him for a waiter working the event!

Was Ed Sheeran mistaken for a waiter by Lady Gaga?

Well, apparently not. It later transpired that the original tweet from Ed, which read, 'I love @ladygaga. Spoke to her earlier and she mistook me for a waiter. Gotta love the #GRAMMYs. #INeedANewSuit? Aha,' had actually come from a fan account!

Ed set the record straight pretty quickly, posting an image of himself and Gaga after a Stevie Wonder tribute concert, alongside the caption: 'Just bumped into gaga she’s fetching me a drink. God bless the press.'

Gaga also set the record straight concerning the rumour, taking to Twitter to write: 'Silly stories about me & Ed Sheeran! Of course I know who this gem is!", before dropping some sage advice, 'THERE ARE NO WAITERS AT THE GRAMMYS PEOPLE.'

Ed swiftly replied in hilarious fashion, writing: 'In all seriousness, where is my drink?'

So there you have it - Ed Sheeran was NOT mistaken for a waiter by Lady Gaga at the 2015 GRAMMY Awards!

What about Lewis Capaldi?

A not-too-dissimilar thing happened to 'Someone You Loved' singer lewis Capaldi at the 2020 ceremony. Reminding us all of the Gaga vs. Sheeran rumour, Lewis Capaldi tweeted from the GRAMMYs 2020 that he was in fact mistaken for a seat filler!

At big events like the GRAMMYs, organisers make sure that there are plenty of people waiting to sit in empty seats, if a big star goes to the loo or the bar...

Oh Lewis! 🙈
