Katy Perry adds fuel to Taylor Swift feud with new song ‘1984’
Is it a dig at '1989'?!
Katy Perry has apparently stepped up her fiery feud with Taylor Swift up a notch by announcing a new song called ‘1984’.
The name of George Orwell’s famous dystopian novel and the year of Katy’s birth, ‘1984’ could be perceived as a direct swipe at Taylor Swift’s album title ‘1989’.
It’s believed that ‘1984’ is a retaliation to Taylor’s track ‘Bad Blood’, which is about a bitter fallout with an undisclosed rival female pop star – very possibly Katy Perry.
Ahead of 1989’s release last year, Taylor revealed that she was “straight-up enemies’ with a pop star who provided the inspiration for ‘Bad Blood’.
“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” Taylor said of the unnamed pop star. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'”
The ‘Shake It Off’ singer continued: “She did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies’. And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business.
“She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
Although Taylor was careful not to name names, Katy seemed to out herself as Taylor’s rival when she tweeted shortly after the interview: “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
The tweet alluded to the jealous, phony and spiteful character in 2004 movie Mean Girls who is all sickly sweet on the outside.
We’ll await the unveiled of 1984 with a due sense of fervent anticipation!
