Former A Place in the Sun host Jonnie Irwin has taken to Instagram to share some photos from a special day out, saying he had the 'best day'. The 49-year-old visited London's Oval cricket ground with cricketer Ryan Sidebottom, hailing the day as a 'highlight' of his Summer.

Sharing photos from his trip, Jonnie wrote: 'Had the best day in awesome company thanks to @ryansidebottom_official and @engagegroup_uk who made the whole experience a massive highlight of my summer.'

Last November, dad-of-three Jonnie revealed that he had terminal cancer, with a tumour in his lung spreading to his brain. Jonnie's post was met with several supportive messages from fans, with one person commenting: 'Aww Jonnie you look good, hope your day was enjoyable too.'

Someone else said: 'Looking good Jonnie. So great seeing your lovely smile.' Another person added: 'Fantastic Jonnie! Great venue and great occasion.'

One fan commented: 'Great you had fun for yourself, keep strong Jonnie, thousands of people walking with you.'

Jonnie recently took to Instagram to proudly share a sweet photo of his son Rex on his first day of school. Captioning the adorable snap, Jonnie added: 'First day of school. I'm so proud of him I could burst.'

The presenter told the public last year that he had been diagnosed with cancer and had been given months to live. His prognosis was thankfully lengthened with the help of chemotherapy and other treatments.

Speaking to Hello! last year, Jonnie said: "It's got to the point now where it feels like I'm carrying a dirty secret - it's become a monkey on my back.

"I hope that by shaking that monkey off and talking to Hello!, I might inspire people who are living with life-limiting prospects to make the most of every day; to help them see that you can live a positive life, even though you are dying."
