James Bond director Sam Mendes says the ‘fantastic’ theme song to new movie Spectre will be unveiled very soon.

Ever since the 24th movie was announced at Pinewood Studios last December, speculation has been rife about who is following in Adele’s footsteps and recording the Spectre theme.

Earlier this month Sam Smith categorically ruled himself out but a few days later Ellie Goulding added fuel to the rumours by ambiguously tweeting the name of the Bond move Live and Let Die.

Without revealing who has recorded it, Sam Mendes has now confirmed to the BBC that the track has already been laid down and he’s thrilled with the results.

"I can say that the song's been recorded and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it," Mendes enthused. "You won't have to wait long."

Elsewhere in his candid chat with the BBC, Mendes revealed that Spectre will be his second and final Bond movie citing the all consuming workload.

"I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends," he admitted. "But I do think this is probably it."

"I don't think I could go down that road again. You do have to put everything else on hold."

Starring Daniel Craig as MI6 agent Bond and Christoph Waltz as his arch nemesis Franz Oberhauser, Spectre hits UK cinemas on 26th October.
