Ed Sheeran is well-known for his incredible hits, songs written for other artists and collaborations, but he's pretty private about his personal life. However, after getting engaged and later married, to his childhood friend Cherry Seaborn, the couple have also welcomed two children together!

Here we take a look at who Cherry is, how she and Ed met and how long they were together before he proposed. This is what we know about Ed Sheeran's wife Cherry Seaborn...

How did Ed meet Cherry?

Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn are childhood friends and they went to the same school, but only became romantically involved in later years. They started dating in 2015 and have been together ever since, with Ed crediting Cherry with nursing him back to health when he broke both of his arms in a cycling accident in 2017.

Although mostly private about his relationship, Ed did reveal in 2017 that he was very close to someone and they had a "strong relationship". He also joked that they now have cats and "when you have cats that's kind of it".

People.com reported the reason for Ed taking a year out of music in 2016 was that he wanted to concentrate on his relationship with Cherry. In that year, Cherry also left her job so they could spend time together. Ed later revealed that they went travelling and spent every day together, he also said they only spent three days apart in 2016. Aww!

Back in 2018, People spoke to Ed about his then-fiancée. He said: "I’ve known Cherry since I was 11. She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows (around New York in 2015).

"It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s (Swift) 4th of July party. I was texting (Cherry), and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history."

Where is she from?

Like her husband, Cherry is from Suffolk, UK. The pair met while they were at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham.

He wrote of the time: 'Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air.'

When did Ed and Cherry get engaged?

Ed Sheeran announced his engagement to Cherry on Instagram in January 2018, captioning it, 'Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.' (sic)
