Dizzee's back to talk about Robbie Williams' house, working with the former Take That man and the unique video for their new single together, Goin' Crazy
Dizzee Rascal is back to give us some more summer soundtracks. Alex James asks him about Robbie Williams' house, working with the former Take That man, and the unique video for their new single together, Goin' Crazy. Over the years, Dizzee's biggest hits have come during the summer months and although last year was a quiet one for him, he's back and ready to reclaim his turf, "I love that, man. I love seeing people have a good time. We don't get get a lot of summer in England so it's nice that when the sun is about, that I'm a part of it.", he said. When Alex asks him what he's been up to lately, he says, "We've got the new single with Robbie called Goin' Crazy. I actually recorded it in LA last year and I needed someone to sing it. Robbie's name came up a few months ago and I was proper excited about it so we went to LA to record it with him and that was really good." On whether or not he had any reservations on working with Robbie, Dizzee said, "I was excited by the thought of it. You never know if a person is actually going to execute it, there's always that. But I like the fact that he made a point of saying that he wanted me there when he recorded his part to give direction and bounce off each other, vibe-wise. "I went to his house, we was there for hours! We only spent an hour and a half on the actual song. The rest of the time we were just joking about, just chilling." Speaking about the former Take That man's house, Dizzee said, "It's like Cribs. It's what you'd expect. He's neighbours with Paris Hilton and Slash. It's just a nice comfortable, easy environment. I met his family and we ate Chinese takeaway. The video for Goin' Crazy is not your usual music video, as Dizzee explains, "Basically it's based on a film called Quadrophenia, it's a classic British film. It's what they would look like today if them riders were still around, the Mods and the rockers - so they're on mobility scooters. It's shot in one take, there's no editing or anything like that, what you see is just what was going on." "The cast were all really cool as well. It's kind of like a movie set but with all these crazy looking mobility scooters and Minis with big spikes coming out of them, it's crazy." he added. On that uniqueness of the video all being one take, he said, "I've never shot a video where it's all just one continuous scene. So having to remember to get to a certain point at a certain part of the song, it was a different way of working. I loved it, though." With summer looming, Alex asks if the album is nearly ready. "The album's nearly finished. One thing I'm happy about is the direction it's gone. It's got a lot of range on it, it's my big international sounding album, that's all I can say."
