Coleen Rooney has shared a touching tribute to her late sister Rosie on what would have been her 21st birthday.

The star's sister passed away when she was 14 as she suffered from Rett syndrome, a brain disorder that affects a person's language, coordination and repetitive movements.

Proving she may be gone but will never be forgotten, Coleen shared a selection of beautiful photographs of Rosie beaming on Instagram and wrote, "If only you were here to celebrate Rosie Mc, we would have the biggest party for the most special girl. Happy 21st Birthday Ro 💞💗😘".

Coleen's parents Colette and Tony fostered Rosie from the age of two and the siblings remained close during her life, with the star choosing her sister to be chief bridesmaid at her 2008 wedding to Wayne.

She sadly passed away on January 5, 2013, with the family penning an emotional statement that read, "Sadly our special angel Rosie, our much-loved daughter and sister, went to Heaven at 2.50 this morning at home where she was surrounded by her loving family.

"Rosie was just 14 years old and fought a lifelong battle with Rett syndrome. Throughout her life she brought so much love and happiness to all our family and everyone who knew and met her."

While the family knew she was disabled when she was very young, they were unaware of how severe it would be until later on.

Wayne's wife opened up about Rosie's battle in 2016, telling the Mail on Sunday, "Over a period of time she stopped crawling and lost what use of her hands she had. Then she started having problems swallowing her food.

"It took pretty much a year for Rosie to be diagnosed and, looking back, I can see how much Mum pushed to find out what was wrong with her and to try to do what was best for her."
