After seeing the first photos of Baby Sussex, it seemed like the world was waiting with bated breath for the name. With suggestions such as Arthur, Spencer and Alfred thrown out of the window, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex opted for a more unusual name, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Whilst it has come as a surprise to many, the name makes sense when the meaning behind it is revealed. Archie means 'genuine,' 'bold,' or 'brave', whilst the Greek derivation of the name comes from ruler, also fitting with the little boy's great-grandfather Prince Philip, who is from the Greek Royal family. Meanwhile, the little boy's other name Harrison, means 'son of Harry', obviously very fitting for the first son of Prince Harry.

According to a Royal source speaking to ELLE the couple wanted to have a 'modern name' which still respected the Royal tradition, the source went on to explain, 'there was no special meaning behind the name; the couple just loved it.'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also decide not to give their little boy a Royal title, such as Prince, so he will be known Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, however it's understood that he could be given a title when his granddad Prince Charles becomes King, as all grandchildren of the reigning monarch have an HRH title.

The first photos of Archie were released on Wednesday (8th of May) , with Prince Harry appearing in front of the world's press holding their newborn, whilst Meghan stood alongside him in a long white dress.

Hours later the Royal family released his full name in a statement which read, 'The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor'.

Archie's birth was first announced by the Royal family on Monday 6th May, with a statement which read, 'We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.'

It continued, 'The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days'.
