Actress Blanca Blanco explains why she didn't wear black at the Golden Globes

The first big awards ceremony of the year, the Golden Globes, took place last night and nearly everybody wore black in support of the #MeToo movement. However, one person who didn't wear black to the event was American actress Blanca Blanco, and she has now revealed why she didn't wear black, like the majority of those attending.

Blanca turned up to the awards ceremony wearing a long, figure-hugging red dress and even tweeted her arrival at the ceremony simply saying, 'Arriving @goldenglobes'.

But the actress, who had a wardrobe malfunction at last year's Oscars, later explained to fans on Twitter, 'The issue is bigger than my dress color '. sic

In a statement to women-focussed website Refinery29, Blanca further explained that she loves the colour red and 'Wearing red does not means I am against #timesup movement. I applaud and stand by the courageous actresses that continue to brake the circle of abuse through their actions and their style choice.

'It is one of many factors leading women to a safer place because of their status in the acting world. I am excited about the 'Time's UP' movement because true change is long overdue.' sic

Along with Blanca, Hollywood Foreign Press President Meher Tatna, and model and actress Barbara Meier also chose not to wear black. On the night Meher, who was born in Mumbai told Entertainment Tonight, "My mom and I planned this together a couple of months ago, it is a cultural thing.

"When you have a celebration, you don't wear black. So she would be appalled if I were to have worn black. And so this is, for my mom." sic

Meher decision to wear colourful clothes was supported by CNN's VP of programming Mitra Kalita who tweeted. 'She's born in India where this red IS our basic black'.
