Last night (17th September), one of the biggest nights in the TV industry took place, the Emmys held in Los Angeles, but whilst the popular shows such as Game of Thrones and The Crown took home the big awards, there was one HUGE surprise on stage.
It was during Glenn Weiss' acceptance speech for Outstanding Directing for Variety Special, when he took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend who was sat in the audience.
Jan Svendsen and Glenn Weiss
On stage, Glenn, who has directed and produced a number of shows including the Academy Awards (Oscars), revealed in his acceptance speech how his award was 'bittersweet', as his mum had died just two weeks ago.
"Mum always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend Jan," Glenn explained, "Jan, you are the sunshine in my life. And mum was right, don't ever let go of your sunshine."
The award-winning director continued, "You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife."
After hearing this, the entire auditorium started screaming with excitement, as Jan was left speechless. Glenn's future wife then made her way onto the stage where he finished the proposal with his mum's engagement ring, which he joked, "To my sisters and brothers, I didn't swipe it, dad knows I have it OK?!"
Watch the emotional moment below:
Although not a huge amount is known about Glenn's new fiancée, Jan Svendsen, according to Vox she works in marketing on Broadway, and she and Glenn have worked together frequently on the Tony Awards - which recognise excellence in live Broadway theatre.
