The accident happened on Academy Street in the town centre at about 3.30pm this afternoon.
Emergency services including the police and fire service attended.
Police have confirmed a woman has died and another is in a serious condition in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness
The road has been closed to traffic as investigations are carried out.
A Police Scotland spokesman said diversions were in place and the road would be closed until further notice
