WATCH: Killer storm leaves man dead in Moray
A sudden fierce storm has capsized seven-boats in the Moray Firth, killing a man at Findhorn Bay.
A Moray man is telling MFR News how a vicious freak weather storm killed his friend of 30-years.
The unbelievable squall tore through the Moray coast on Saturday afternoon, causing seven-small boats to capsize in the Moray Firth, near Findhorn Bay.
It's understood with little to no warning the weather changed from pleasantly sunny to severe wind, rain, and even hail. There was also thunder and lightening.
The squall lasted just 10-minutes, but it's left a life-long void for the remaining family of the 69-year-old man named locally as Frank Whyte.
He died after rescuers brought him back to the village's shore.
Michael MacDonald from the Invergordon-based RNLI - which responded to the persons overboard - told MFR News: "What started as a calm day with sun breaking out, became a fierce squall which appeared in almost an instant, where visibility was hampered and weather conditions can only be described as unbelievable with thunder and lightning, heavy rain, hail, and driving winds.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman who sadly lost his life in what should have been a pleasurable sailing trip."
