A dramatic last-minute winner from Billy McKay gave 10-man Dundee United victory in an action-packed Scottish Cup quarter-final against Ross County at Global Energy Stadium.
Liam Boyce gave County the lead midway through the first half but Henry Anier levelled just before the hour mark.
But when United went down to 10 men on the hour mark when Mark Durnan was sent off and Brian Graham put the home side ahead from the penalty spot there looked as if there was only going to be one winner.
But Anier scored his second goal of the tie to level the scores at 2-2 and McKay struck at the death to see United through to the semis.
United's goalscorers hit their stride early in the game, McKay seizing on lax defending to turn and shoot just wide while Anier won a scrap with Michael Gardyne in the box but blasted his effort high and wide.
County came close in the 14th minute when fine link-up play between Jackson Irvine and Boyce ended up with Boyce being denied firstly by United goalkeeper Luis Zwick then by Paton as the ball broke back to the centre-forward.
The home side continued to press and they took the lead in the 24th minute after they won a corner on the right. Jonathan Franks' flag-kick was headed towards goal by Davies and Boyce rose a couple of yards out to flick the ball past Zwick.
John Rankin and Paul Dixon failed to trouble Gary Woods and the County goalkeeper then got away with fumbling a Spittal corner.
In first-half stoppage time County won a free-kick out on the left but Franks' delivery was cleared before Boyce could get his head on it.
Irvine had the first effort of the second half in the 48th minute but his shot from the left edge of the box flashed wide of the far post.
Graham was only inches away from connecting with a deep cross from Marcus Fraser as County went in search of a second goal.
But the visitors drew level in the 57th minute when Durnan's ball was deflected into the path of Anier who buried it beyond Woods.
County were back in front three minutes later when United went down to 10 men after Durnan prevented Graham having a clear route to goal. Durnan was shown a straight red card by referee Craig Thomson and Graham comfortably converted from the spot.
But the 10 men were not done and they hit back again in the 65th minute when a Rankin cross was missed by the County defence and when the ball fell for Anier he hammered it past Woods.
Gardyne forced a fingertip save from Zwick in the 70th minute as County went all out for a winner.
But with just one minute remaining United hit a dramatic winner. Spittal swung a ball over from the right and McKay swooped to head past Woods.
