Motorists travelling through Inverness are facing a weekend of disruption as investigations into a major fire continue.

Academy Street will remain closed until at least Monday after a blaze consumed the M&Co building.

Scaffolding will be erected around the building while crews work to secure the structure.

A joint police and fire investigation in the cause of the blaze is also ongoing.

MFR Reporter Derek Ferguson speaks with Highland Council Traffic Officer Shane Manning about the disruption...

A Highland Council spokesperson said: "Structural information has been obtained which has confirmed that, due to its condition, the building the fire broke out in requires scaffolding to be erected around it to make it safe.

"In order to carry out this work Academy Street from Union Street to Margaret’s Street will remain closed to all traffic and pedestrians until at least the start of next week.

"Multi-agency partners are continuing to work together to minimise disruption to businesses in the area and the local community where possible."
