LISTEN: Quinn feels setback makes County hungrier to succeed
League Cup humbling has forced County into an early re-evaluation of their side.
Paul Quinn relishes the new Premiership season and the chance for a bit of SPFL redemption having seen Ross County already relinquish their League Cup title.
"It's given the team a bit of a different thought process now" said the Staggies skipper.
"We thought we'd get through the group and go into the league campaign, but now we need to turn a very big negative into a positive. We need to try and use it as motivation and try and put some good performances together in the league"
Quinn doesn't mince his words when he describes their failure to make it out of Group D: "It's probably the biggest disappointment in my career"
"I've probably been involved in heavier defeats in bigger games, but just the magnitude and the way we let it go after the credit we took last season, obviously it made it a big fall"
"We took a lot of criticism and deservedly so"
But following on from the setback, Quinn believes the drive within the Dingwall side is stronger: "We look to improve on everything so that'll mean top six, better goals scored and fewer goals conceded and finishing higher is our main aim"
County begin their League campaign at home to the new-look Dundee:-
County managed cup silverware and a top six finish last season, but Quinn believes the challenge will be made harder with the return of Rangers, although it's all to the good for the SPFL Premiership, believes the defender:
"It's another fantastic stadium to go to, a good set of supporters that'll come to your stadium and fill it, playing against better players - it's only good for the league"
"It makes the league tougher, but we'll be looking to take points off them and hope they beat teams round about us"
"It just gives us another marquee team to test ourselves against and it gives us the most exciting league in a long time"
"The build up to it - I only hope it doesn't disappoint - I think all the teams need to focus on making it as competitive as we possibly can"
