LISTEN: McHardy expects Elgin to click into place after poor home performance
Defender Darryl McHardy hopes to see a more consistent Elgin get into their stride in League Two following back-to-back home defeats.
Elgin City set off for Stirling this weekend looking for a return to winning ways after another home defeat at Borough Briggs.
Clyde's 2-0 win - following on from Arbroath's 1-0 result in Moray - was virtually unheard of last season, with only one defeat for the Black & Whites on home soil in the whole of last season.
Defender Darryl McHardy said: "Clyde can be a bit of a stuffy team, they look to play for long balls and diagonals, we knew how it was going to be and that's how they took the points"
It was a day when the team-talk went out the window, as the defence switched off inside the first minute, allowing a long throw to provide the opener, as ex-Ross County player Sean Higgins had all the time in the world to score inside the 6 yard box.
The second goal proved to be more comical than calamitous - though not for the City support - as goalkeeper Stewart Black decided to head out a long ball from the edge of his area, when leaving it to bounce he could've collected it with ease.
With no Clyde player putting pressure on the 'keeper his headed clearance sadly found a Clyde player, who then teed-up Peter MacDonald for an opportunist 40 yard strike into the empty net.
Clearly with an error strewn performance, McHardy said: "It was a frustrating day - boys not doing their jobs at times - yes we had a wee argument here and there, but that was that"
Elgin now find themselves fifth, with an indifferent start, won three, lost three. Next week it's a trip to Stirling, although another home defeat will have left manager Jim Weir with a few questions of his side.
McHardy believes Elgin have yet to get going in this season's League Two campaign: "I don't think we've found our strongest team yet, we're still a bit uneven, a few of the positions there's still a few changes here-and-there, we even saw a couple for Clyde following on from our win at Berwick, we're even seeing some competition for places on the bench"
"I'm not at my best yet, I had a very poor game. I know I haven't been playing that much of late, but I just need a few more matches to get my fitness back up, and I'm sure that'll come in the next few weeks. Against Clyde, it just wasn't good enough though"
So what's going wrong at Borough Briggs? As the challenge this term was to maintain Elgin's fine home form, while collecting more points on the road:-
