Police in Nairn are investigating an incident at the town's beach.

An 11 year old girl was approached by a man last Thursday.

He's described as aged between 50 to 60, of stocky build, wearing a dark beanie hat.

The girl was unhurt.

Detective Sergeant Peter MacDonald said "After the incident the girl alerted dog walkers on the beach who saw a male disappearing from sight into the sand dunes.

"The male is described as between 50 and 60 years of age, stocky build with broad shoulders, wearing a dark beanie hat and a blue and black water proof jacket with green stripe. "The incident was not reported to Police Scotland at the time and we are now appealing for anyone who was in the area on New Year's Day to contact us if they think they have information which may help in identifying this male.

"In particular, we believe a family from Inverness spoke with the girl after the incident and we would urge them to come forward.

"I can confirm the girl was not physically injured during the incident" Detectives are currently reviewing CCTV footage and Police have increased patrols in the area in response.
