The brother of former Labour MP Mohammad Sarwar has said he is seeking legal advice over statements made in the politician's autobiography.
The brother of former Labour MP Mohammad Sarwar has said he is seeking legal advice over statements made in the politician's autobiography.
Businessman Mohammed Ramzan said while he was proud of his brother, who served as a Glasgow MP for 13 years until 2010, he felt betrayed'' by some of the contents.
Mr Sarwar, who made his money in the cash and carry business, released a book of his memoirs My Remarkable Journey - The Autobiography Of Britain's First Muslim MP earlier this month.
In a statement, Mr Ramzan said: I am deeply proud of my brother's achievements, but at the same time I feel betrayed and hurt by some of his claims regarding myself and the business that I worked so hard to establish.
His book is full of lies and he has made me out to be a 'failure' in our early business life despite the fact that I started the cash and carry business and was the driving force behind our business achievements.
With a heavy heart, I have been left with no choice but to seek legal advice against the publishers and authors of this book, as the statements made by Mohammad Sarwar have affected my professional, political and personal reputation, causing me and my family great distress.''
A spokesman for Mr Sarwar said: Mohammad Sarwar is currently contesting the election to become the president of the main opposition party in Pakistan - the PTI headed by Imran Khan.
Mr Sarwar is gravely disappointed by the statements and allegations made by his brother, Mohammed Ramzan.
Mohammad Sarwar stands by the entire contents of his autobiography, which include a recognition of the immense contribution his brother made to their successful business. He will be making no further comment on this issue.''
