Eden Court reacts to Highland Council cut

17% cut in the grant to the Inverness theatre equates to ÂŁ100,000 loss of funding

Eden Court chief executive Colin Marr has predicted a devastating impact to the Inverness theatre and untold damaged to their services following cuts to their grant from Highland Council.

A 10% cut was what had been predicted by the theatre - or around ÂŁ59,000 - but instead they are having to reassess their situation.

"It will take us some time to go through the budget, but ticket pricing, costs to local groups and charities when they hire the venue, also the worry is when it eats into the education work - like some of the things we do with excluded young people across the area"; explained Mr Marr when listing some areas they would need to review.

Looking at the future prospects for what we can expect to see at the Inverness theatre, the chief executive of Eden Court also said there might be a more limited programme of events.

"There's no one deal with every show, we need to negotiate, we have to balance things out based on a number of factors. We'll have to push a little bit harder in some cases and that just means that some people won't be appearing at Eden Court any more"

"The region will suffer far more than the saving is worth to Highland Council. We are the busiest theatre in the UK in terms of per-capita attendance"
