The officer was photographed in Inverness Train Station this week despite assurances from Police Scotland they would only be deployed in special circumstances.
An armed police officer has been photographed in Inverness despite claims they would only be deployed in special circumstances.
The picture was taken as the officer walked through the train station on Tuesday.
Police Scotland said the officer had breached new force policy and had be spoken to.
A spokesperson said: "The officer was out on appropriate vehicle patrol and offered assistance at Inverness Railway Station.
"This was outwith the agreed deployment of armed officers.
"Whilst acknowledging the officer was being helpful, he has been reminded of the strict criteria."
