Administration Fears At Forres Medical Firm
Accunostics is expected to be placed into administration, raising doubts about the future of 30 jobs.
The future of dozens of jobs at a north-east firm are in doubt after staff were sent home.
30 Accunostics workers, based at Forres Enterprise Park, were told to leave last week.
It comes after discussions on a possible merger with a US firm collapsed.
An Accunostics spokesperson said: "Having entered into an agreement and concluded successful diligence meetings, the company had expected its staff would become part of a US parent company by the end of February.
"At the last minute, the US company has withdrawn its offer, due to market uncertainty.
"AccuNostics is consulting with their advisors and expect to place the company into administration."
Politicians are meeting with HIE for talks on the way forward for the company.
David Oxley, Moray Area Manager, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said:
“Naturally, this is very disappointing news. Highlands and Islands Enterprise helped to set up AccuNostics in Forres in 2011, and has worked closely with the business ever since.
“We have contacted colleagues in Skills Development Scotland to set up PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment).
"This will ensure that any member of AccuNostics staff who may be facing redundancy is able to obtain relevant advice and support.
“It looks very likely that an administrator will be appointed soon, and we will be seeking an urgent meeting.
"In particular, we want to explore options which could retain skilled employment in Forres.”
Richard Lochhead MSP said: "The sudden developments at Accunostics are first and foremost a blow to the workers affected, especially those based in Moray.
"As well as public resources, a lot of hope was invested in this cutting edge company and it is such a shame that so much optimism appears to have suddenly faded we are told due to global market conditions."
