This morning 23 vintage vehicles are setting off from John o' Groats at the start of the 2016 Monte Carlo Rally.

It's 90 years since the event set off from Caithness and a dozen of the starters will continue the full journey to Monaco.

It may seem a difficult challenge for some classic cars, but start organiser Walter Mowat has told MFR News that they'll cope with the journey: "They're enthusiasts, and anyone who has enthusiasm for their sport must be admired.

"To go all the way in a modern car from John o' Groats to Monte Carlo is challenging, but to go in a car of a certain error, you must be an enthusiast.

"There is one person - Victor Bruce - who was the only winner of Monte Carlo who set off from John o' Groats in 1926."
