LISTEN: Nessie Hunter Vows To Never Stop Searching
Steve Feltham says he'll never stop looking for Nessie after his latest theory the monster could actually be a giant catfish.
The world's longest standing Nessie Hunter has vowed to never give up his search, after his latest theory the Loch Ness Monster is actually a giant catfish.
Steve Feltham has spent the last 24 years scouring Loch Ness in the hope solving the mystery behind the elusive creature.
His latest guess is that it could actually be a Wels Catfish.
MFR News speaks with record setting Nessie hunter Steve Feltham...
He says: "These fish, remember, are the biggest freshwater fish in the world. They grow to four metres long. They're the size of a car, and they've got this very smooth back like the classic upturned boat people describe."
Over the years there have been several ideas as to what the truth could be.
Some think it may be a plesiosaur or sturgeon, while others believe it's a giant spaceship.
Steve initially became fascinated as a young boy on holiday in the Highlands: "I got hooked when I was a seven year old boy in 1970."
"There was an expedition of monster hunters here all summer long that year called 'The Loch Ness Investigation Bureau,' and just near Urquhart Castle they had this headquarters of caravans."
"They'd built this sort of jetty sticking out of the hillside, and on the end of this jetty they had this camera, and the lens on it I swear was about a metre long. This camera lens - ridiculous thing."
"Obviously to a seven year old seeing these guys looking for monsters with this camera.
"That was me, I was just hooked. And that fascination just grew and grew and grew through my childhood."
Neary 25 years on he's still trying to find the answer.
One thing he does know for sure is he won't be giving up anytime soon: "I can't see it really, not unless we get that utterly and completely conclusive piece of proof as to what Nessie is, and hopefully it'll be me that gets that piece of evidence."
"That wouldn't stop me from hunting for Nessies.
"That would be the lump of credibility to jetterson me off around the world to find some of the other ones."
