Inverness Woman Dies In House Fire

A 68 year old woman has died following a house fire in Inverness.

Fire Crews were called to the property in Lochend on Friday evening. At approximately 9.14pm last Friday, 9th January, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended a house fire at Lochend near Inverness. Three appliances from Inverness were sent to the scene of the fire within a two-storey, semi-detached property. On arrival firefighters were faced with a fire on the first floor of the house. One female and two males were already out of the house when crews arrived at the scene. One female casualty was placed in the care of the ambulance service and she was taken to hospital after being assessed by paramedics. She later passed away at Raigmore Hospital. A total of six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to locate and extinguish the fire and prevent further fire spread to the adjoining property. The fire was extinguished by 9.57pm using hose reel jets, however crews remained on the scene damping down and cutting away the affected area. An joint police and fire investigation is ongoing.
