Elgin Youth Café photo and film courses boosted by £3000 legacy
Photographer's family see the fruits from sale of Eilidh Thomson's work as her memory lives on
Elgin Youth Café (EYC) have launched their photography and filming project for 2016 - allowing young people the chance to develop their skills - with the project organised as a tribute to talented Photographer Eilidh Thomson who sadly passed away on 5th July 2014.
Eilidh had introduced a group from EYC to the world of photography with a series of courses back in 2010, and following her death from cancer aged just 29, a sale of her work raised £3000.
This money was donated by the Thomson family to help up-and-coming photographers at Elgin Youth Café in Francis Place.
Kate Armitage, Senior Youth Worker at EYC said; "The aim of the project is to introduce young people to photography and filming and to develop their skills. We have been thrilled with the response from young people who have shown interest to participate in the taster sessions. The support has been tremendous"
The topics will include Pin-Hole camera techniques, portraits, modelling, group pictures, active photography, landscape and nature studies. Young people can attend as many sessions as they want to and thanks to the support for the project there is no cost involved for them.
Gemma Munro and Bronwyn Robb are now adult volunteers at EYC, but were part of Eilidh Thomson's class when she first worked at Elgin Youth Café:-
The series of photography and filming courses culminates in a presentation event with a celebration of work on Thursday May 5th.
