Driver Caught At Nearly Twice The Speed Limit In Aberdeenshire In Police Crackdown

A motorcyclist was caught driving at nearly twice the speed limit in Aberdeenshire as part of a new police operation to crackdown on road crime.

A motorcyclist was clocked driving at almost 120mph on an Aberdeenshire Road this weekend ā€“ nearly twice the speed limit.

He was one of many caught by police in Aberdeenshire and Moray as part of a new crackdown on road crime.

Road Policing officers carried out a number of speeding checks across the region, which saw nearly 200 vehicles stopped.

Five men were charged with drink driving, while another man was reported for failing to provide a breath test.

A further four men were charged for speeding offences, including one motorist stopped for driving at 114mph in the 60mph speed limit area of the A952 Mintlaw to Cortes road.

Officers stopped and engaged with 192 drivers in total, with 81 being warned or reported for a variety of offences, including speeding, using a mobile phone and driving without a seatbelt.

The checks took place as part of Operation CEDAR (Challenge, Educate, Detect and Reduce), an ongoing operation to encourage drivers to take more responsibility on the regions roads. This weekend, officers were stationed across a number of Aberdeenshire's main routes including the A96, A90 and A952.

Road Policing Inspector Ewan Innes said: ā€œDespite repeated warnings about the dangers, it is disappointing to find that drivers of all ages are still willing to ignore speed limit or drink and drive. These motorists are not only putting themselves in danger, but placing other lives at risk too.

ā€œWe would encourage all motorists to think about their actions while on the road, as these offences can have devastating consequences. The safety of road users is a leading priority for Police Scotland and this is reflected in the ongoing work under Operation CEDAR.ā€
