Alness Straw Bale Fire Could Be 'Deliberate'
80 bales of straw caught fire last night.
A fire that destroyed 80 bales of straw at a farm near Alness may have been set deliberately.
The alarm was raised at land at Contullich around 7:00PM last night.
The flames were put out after a few hours and no one was hurt.
Police are asking for anyone with information to get in touch.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Group Manager Phil Green said: “Although this incident is still under investigation there is a possibility that this fire was deliberately set.
"We would like to remind everyone about the dangers involved in deliberate fire setting. These fires can threaten properties and consequently people’s safety.
"There is also a risk to animals, birds and the environment.
“Deliberate fires draw fire service resources away from other serious and potentially life threatening incidents.
"Fire setting is an offence – don’t accept it, report it. We would encourage anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
