20 Walt Disney World facts we bet you didn't know

It's almost that magical time of year when Disney On Ice Returns to the Metro Radio Arena!
This year's performance Disney On Ice Presents Frozen will have us joining Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven, on a journey to discover love is the most magical power of all. Dazzling effects, with astonishing skating and special appearances by favourite Disney stars combine to create memories to last a lifetime!
This has us thinking about the wondrous fantasy world that is Walt Disney World, it's not only full of magic, it's also full of secrets.
Did you know..
- There are thousands of hidden Mickey Mouse head symbols throughout Disney World and the surrounding resorts - no one knows exactly how many there are but it's ALOT.
- Fourteen of the opening day attractions in the Magic Kingdom are still running, quite impressive as it opened in 1971.
- On Disney’s first opening day, admission was $3.50! It’s not costs $85 for a day ticket to the Magic Kingdom.
- At one point, the parking lots at the Magic Kingdom were named after six of the seven dwarves. There was never a “Doc” lot because designers thought it would be confused for the ferry docks.
- Devices all over Disney parks emit scents in certain areas to match the surroundings – at Christmas time they spread the smell of cinnamon!
- The colored concrete walkways in the Magic Kingdom are colored because Kodak and Disney found that light reflecting off colored concrete creates more vivid photographs.
- Toy Story characters used to drop to the ground when guests yelled, “Andy’s coming!” but due to safety concerns and too many people saying it, they now stay standing and simply say “Andy is at college”. Awwww.
- Epcot was originally designed to be a model community and home to 20,000 residents, but now it is filled with mini “countries” to explore, this is called The World Showcase.
- More than 200 pairs of sunglasses are turned in to lost and found in Disney World each day. That’s 73,000 a year!
- In the United Kingdom pavilion, the Rose and Crown got its name from the two most common words found in pub names in the United Kingdom.
- Animal Kingdom scrapped off plans for an area called Beastly Kingdom, which was going to be dedicated to mythical animals. That is why there is a dragon on the signs for Animal Kingdom, and a dragon’s head hanging above the front gates.
- You can't get a straw or cup lid at Animal Kingdom, as they may harm the animals if dropped on the floor.
- You CAN stay in Cinderella’s castle BUT only if you win a competition! You cannot book out the secret suite inside, no matter how famous or wealthy you are. Sorry Kimye!
- The deluxe suite in Cinderlella’s castle comes complete with 24-karat gold tile floors and a "magic mirror" that turns into a television.
- The 14-story “Tree of Life” in the middle of Animal Kingdom is made from an old oil rig!
- There are tunnels under Disney World that allow employees and cast members to move between the different areas without being seen.
- Disney World has its own governing jurisdiction named The Reedy Creek Improvement District.
- All Disney charactors have to be the exact same height as their character. Disney princesses are normally around 5’4 to 5’8.
- Disney characters don’t “know” or talk about characters out of their realm, if you asked Cinderella about Snow White, she wouldn’t know who you are talking about.
- There is a secret nightclub in Disney World named Club 33. Club 33 members and their guests have exclusive access to resort experiences. In addition, their Club 33 membership card grants them (and up to three guests) access to early park admission. Celebrity guests include Jonny Depp and the waiting list is around 10 years long!
