This is Tomorrow Festival unveils line-up for North East’s largest outdoor 2021 gathering
UK concert promoters Kilimanjaro Live today announced it will present the 2021 edition of the North-East’s biggest outdoor music festival, This is Tomorrow.
Taking place over the weekend of September 17, 18 and 19th 2021, the event will now be headlined by Dermot Kennedy, Gerry Cinnamon and Sam Fender, respectively.
Staged on Newcastle’s Exhibition Park, This Is Tomorrow was established in 2018 and has rapidly risen to become the North-East’s flagship contemporary music festival.
Also announced for the new dates – previously moved from the May Bank Holiday weekend – are Blossoms, Bugzy Malone, Mahalia, The Kooks, Fontaines D.C., Pale Waves, Holly Humberstone, Billy Nomates and the Mercury-nominated North Easterner, Nadine Shah.
Kilimanjaro Live's CEO, Stuart Galbraith, said: ‘’The pandemic has caused huge challenges for the live industry in 2020 and 2021 and when the opportunity came up for us to get involved with This Is Tomorrow it was a complete no brainer and a very easy decision for us to make.
“It’s a brilliant festival with huge potential in an area which has been traditionally overlooked as a music market. We’re delighted to be able to get this back in the diary and hope to see everyone in September for what promises to be one hell of a party.’’
Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy - made globally famous for his hit singles 'Outnumbered' and 'Giants' – will open as headliner for the first night of the three-date gathering.
Kennedy’s debut album 'Without Fear' recently collected its 27th week at Number 1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart.
With 2 billion global streams and 1m albums sold and a nomination for Best International Male at this year's BRIT Awards, 2021 has been quite the year for the high-rising star.
Released to universal critical acclaim, and featuring the hit singles 'Outnumbered', 'Giants' and 'Power Over Me', the album has gone on to achieve incredible international success, further solidifying Kennedy’s position as one of the most accomplished Irish artists of his generation.
Saturday's Headliner, the inimitable Gerry Cinnamon, will bring his already legendary live performance including fan-favourites 'Sometimes', 'Canter' and 'Where We're Going'.
Rising from a self-released debut album, Erratic Cinematic, in 2017, Gerry has become a record-breaking stadium and arena-filling headliner; all while choosing to remain unsigned and forge his own way in the music industry.
His hotly anticipated second album, The Bonny, shot straight to Number 1 in the UK and Irish official album charts last year, building on the success of his already Gold-certified debut record.
Gerry's relatable, anthemic tracks, laced with social commentary, have captured the imagination of audiences at sold-out shows across the world.
The Sunday billing at This Is Tomorrow will see the return of local hero Sam Fender, who has gone on to take the world by storm with his number one debut album, 'Hypersonic Missiles'.
The former BRIT Award winner and proud Geordie has all the credentials to headline the region’s largest music festival.
Sam’s combination of timely song topics and seamlessly produced alternative music has made him one of the UK’s most in-demand stars.
This is For The NHS Festival also still plans to go ahead in September and organisers will be making a full announcement about that and its line-up in the coming weeks.
