The Libertines will headline Newacstle Festival
Peter Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell will showcase their classic debut album with a special date in Newcastle this summer.
Their landmark first album was released on 14 October 2002 and featured songs like Time For Heroes, The Boys In The Band and the classic title track, Up the Bracket.
Rocking the live entertainment scene, the Rock N Roll Circus is an all-new touring concept mixing live music with the fanfare of circus. Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds are playing the opening night on Thursday 9th June with The Libertines now headlining an additional night on Saturday June 11th 2022.
Alongside the fantastic music, the Rock N Roll Circus will feature fire performers, jugglers, fortune tellers, aerialists, contortionists, stilt walkers and acrobats, bringing a whole new dimension to the traditional concert experience.
Event promoter, Andy Smith of Futuresound, said: “This album sound tracked my days at university so from a personal perspective I’m absolutely delighted to announce one of the UK's most influential and iconic bands of the modern era to Rock n Roll Circus to celebrate the anniversary of Up the Bracket.
“Joining them will be one of the biggest bands around right now, DMA’s, alongside trapeze artists, contortionists, fire performers, stilt walkers and aerialists to create a fully immersive experience like no other in the UK. The Libertines always deliver a spectacular live show and we know Peter, Carl and the boys will be on top form come June on the Town Moor in Newcastle!”
Also confirmed on the Saturday bill are the DMA’s. The Aussie three-piece's new EP 'I 'Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going To Miss You' was released late last year.
Their four-track mini-album was self-produced by the band and is led by the single We Are Midnight.
The release marks the band's first original music since their third album The GLOW, which included the singles Life is a Game of Changing, its title track and Criminals.
In two decades, The Libertines have paved the way for heavy-hitting music and solidified their spot in the punk rock hall of fame.
Formed by front men Pete Doherty and Carl Barat in 1997, the English rock band spearheaded the UK’s garage rock revival and became one of the most iconic groups to come out of the UK.
From their hit debut album “Up the Bracket” (2002), to their self-titled success “The Libertines” (2004) and finally to their most recent smash “Anthems for Doomed Youth” (2015), this band have garnered both critical and commercial acclaim for being the devious but gifted hooligans of the punk rock songwriting scene.
The Rock N Roll Circus aims to provide the best of live music alongside the best of circus entertainment and will tour the UK popping up in cities across the country with some big surprises, unique entertainment, and big announcements forthcoming.
Tickets for The Libertines at the Rock N Roll Circus will go on sale at 10am on Friday 11th February.
