Shocked shoppers have looked on as a Seaham hotel undergoing demolition collapsed into the street.

It happened on Saturday morning on North Terrace in Seaham.

The front of the Harbour View Hotel partly collapsed onto the pavement, but no one has been injured.

Emergency services were called to the site just before 11am.

Police say no one was inside at the time.

One witness has told Metro Radio;

"I was just literally sat outside, about to snapchat the coffee I was drinking with the lovely view and I heard a huge bang. I thought a bomb had gone off. We jumped up and literally just ran. We turned around and just saw this poor man and woman walking along, their faces were just pure shock. It was horrendous there was debris just all over the road, it was really bad."
