The Saltwell Park Fireworks Display WILL Go Ahead

Your Saltwell Park Firework Display WILL go ahead thanks to Metro Radio!

Gateshead Council have had to pull their funding in the face of massive governmental cuts.

But we've stepped in to make sure the event will continue!

This time round there IS a fee - £2 - and we've been taling to Metro Radio’s director Dominic Munnelly about it all:

“We’ve been involved in this popular event for a number of years and took the view that it would be a huge disappointment if it wasn’t to continue.

We’re really pleased to have agreed to take the event on from Gateshead Council and ensure people still have a safe and well organised event to attend.

We’re going to add some new entertainment elements with a big stage featuring live music performances and a large digital screen.

The only way the event can continue is for us to introduce a very small entrance fee.

We carried out research in Saltwell Park during the summer holidays and talked to local families about what they thought would a fair price for an event that used to be free.

The flat price of only £2 was viewed as wholly acceptable and that’s what we will be charging for wristbands purchased in advance.

We’ve done everything possible to achieve this price without compromising safety or the quality of the firework display. We’ve also looked at comparative paid for events in other parts of the region and the UK, and our pricing is well below the average.

In the next few weeks we will announcing where wrist bands can be purchased from and publishing all the details on the station website.”
