Officers have launched an investigation following a report of rape inside a Newcastle city centre bar.

In the early hours of June 4, a woman approached officers and reported that she had been raped by a man she did not know inside the toilets in Sinners, in Newgate Street.

An investigation was immediately launched by officers from Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Department and a range of enquiries have been carried out, including a full review of CCTV and a number of witnesses spoken to.

As the investigation continues, police have today (Tuesday) issued the image of a man they would like to trace.

He was in the bar at the time of the incident and may have information which can assist their enquiries.

The man, anyone who knows him, or anyone with information is asked to contact police by using the ‘Tell us Something’ page on our website, quoting crime reference 069890W/23.
